On National Book Lovers Day, to try and pick my “Favorite Book”, is really hard because I’ve read so many extraordinary ones. So many page-turners that I couldn’t put down. But one does come to mind immediately because of the story behind it:
Category: BOOKS I LOVE
I’ve been an avid reader my entire life. When I was a child, I remember sitting in my dog’s bed reading Dr. Seuss books to her. She was an ornery poodle, who didn’t want to share her space with me, so she used to growl at me the entire time I read – “Green eggs and ham, sam I am…” But I never let her growls stop me!
My love of reading has grown even stronger over the years.
But when I had my kids, I put reading-for-enjoyment on the back-burner. Mainly because I suddenly had no more “me-time” to read. But also because if I found a few spare minutes to read, I chose parenting books; desperate to learn how to raise good kids, and to get them to sleep through the night.
During those years I missed my books. So much. They were my escapes from reality. The time for myself that I let go.
So once my kids were old enough for me to have a little free time, I made sure the first thing I did with the little bits of free time was to jump back into reading. With both feet!
I started reading as often as I could. My only MUST… the books needed to be great. I don’t have spare time to waste on a boring book!
And so my BOOK CLUB was born! A place I will regularly share my must-read book recommendations. If you’re like me and you don’t have spare time to waste on “so-so” books, bookmark this page so you can check back here regularly for new book ideas!

“When Breath Becomes Air” by Paul Kalanithi
Last week, I stumbled upon “When Breath Becomes Air”. One of my fellow book club ladies read it. Her feedback? “It’s sad, but also inspiring and really makes you reflect on life”. I normally don’t choose memoirs. But something about it caught my attention. It was written by a man who chose to be a…
